Our Annual Kansas Auctioneer Championship Contest returns to its all-in-one-day format with the preliminary and final rounds held on stage at the Kansas State Fair on Wednesday, September 14th.
The contest starts at the Hansen Auditorium at 10:30, where contestants will answer two interview questions. The bid-calling portion of the contest will be at the Peoples Bank & Trust Arena from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

QUALIFICATIONS & RULES
- Must be 18 years of age or older, a member of the Kansas Auctioneers Association and must conduct business in the State of Kansas.
- Must remit $100.00 entry fee in order to compete.
- Entries will be limited to the first twenty (20) submissions.
- Interview portion is at the Hansen Auditorium starting at 10:30 am
- Contestant roll call is at 9:30 am and will be given no later than 10:00 am to report.
- A contestant will be disqualified without return of their entry fee if they have not reported by 10:00 am.
- Each contestant will answer two interview questions before judges.
- Interview order will be determined by a drawing and all contestants will be sequestered until their turn arrives.
- Contestants will be introduced by number drawn.
- Contestants must introduce themselves, where they are from (city), and their number.
- Any contestant not present when called will be disqualified.
- Contestant roll call is at 9:30 am and will be given no later than 10:00 am to report.
- Bid calling portion is from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the People’s Bank & Trust Arena.
- Contestant roll call is at 1:00 pm and will be given no later the 1:30 pm to report.
- A contestant will be disqualified without return of their entry fee if they have not reported by 1:30 pm.
- Contestants will have the opportunity to test the sound system prior to the start of the preliminary round.
- The sound system will be pre-set and will not be adjusted during the contest.
- Each contestant will supply two (2) items to sell for the preliminary round and the KAA will supply items for the finals.
- Contestants will compete in the same order as the interview portion.
- Any contestant not present when called will be disqualified.
- Final round will consist of the top five (5) scoring contestants from the preliminaries.
- Any contestant not present when called for the preliminaries or finals will be disqualified.
- Contestant roll call is at 1:00 pm and will be given no later the 1:30 pm to report.
- Dress appropriately for a professional presentation.
SCORING
- There shall be three judges, consisting of auctioneers or those who operate/manage auction services or facilities.
- Interview (40%) and preliminary bid calling round (60%.scores will be combined to determine top five for final round
- Scores from the preliminary round will combine with scores of the final bid calling round to determine the champion.
AWARDS
The Champion will receive a belt buckle (presented immediately following the contest), a plaque at Winter Convention, and $1,000 in one of the following options:
- $1,000 prize money check
- $300 NAA online membership renewal reimbursement + $700 prize money check
- $300 NAA online membership renewal reimbursement + $350 International Auctioneer Championship entry fee reimbursement + $350 prize money check
- The Champion will be required to attend the KAA Winter Convention in order to receive the awards specified above and assist the MC with the preliminaries. Failure to meet this important requirement will result in the forfeiture of all awards.
The Reserve Champion will receive a plaque and $500 prize money.
The Runner Up will receive a plaque and $250 prize money.
POST CHAMPIONSHIP
- The Champion and Reserve Champion are required to return to the Fair on September 17th to serve as auctioneers for the Kansas State Fair Committee by selling approximately 25 chainsaw sculptures at the Peoples Bank & Trust Arena at 4:00 PM and showcase the best reasons why people should work with a member of the Kansas Auctioneers Association.
- The Champion is required to serve on the next year’s Kansas Auctioneer Contest Committee.
