Association Brings Auctioneer Championship to Wichita

Newton, Kan., January 12, 2012 – Since 1992, auctioneers throughout Kansas and the surrounding states have traveled to Hutchinson to compete with one another at the Kansas State Fair, vying for the title of Auctioneer Champion. The Kansas Auctioneers Association (KAA) hosts the Auctioneer Championship and has made changes for 2012 that will bring the contest to Wichita in late January.

For the first time, the Auctioneer Championship will feature a preliminary contest during with the KAA’s Winter Convention, held this year from January 26-29 in Wichita. This public auction will give anyone the opportunity to bid to and buy from the best auctioneers in the state.

The public is encouraged to attend and observe the contest or to participate by placing bids. The auction will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 27 at the Wichita Marriott at 9100 Corporate Hills Drive. The public is also invited to participate in the KAA’s fun auction which will begin at 8 p.m.

From livestock and auto auctioneers to real estate and benefit auctioneers, each bid caller’s performance will be judged by presentation, chant, voice, effective auctioneering skills and the ability to be an ambassador for the KAA. The top auctioneers will advance to the finals at the Kansas State Fair, where the competition will include both interview and bid calling components.

The winner of this year’s KAA Auctioneer Championship will receive a belt buckle and plaque, a $200 cash prize, a membership to the National Auctioneers Association and an entry in the International Auctioneer Championship to be held July 2013 in Indianapolis, Ind.
