April 2015 is declared Auctioneer’s Month

On April 29, the board of directors traveled to Topeka to meet with Governor Sam Brownback. The governor signed a proclamation declaring April to be Auctioneer's Month. As always, it seems that auctioneers are one of his favorite groups to meet with. As the governor tells it, his father thought he was quite the talker and would make a great auctioneer. He actually went to auction school, but in the end decided to go to law school.

Letter from the Auxiliary

Greetings Fellow Auxiliary Members, It's hard to believe the end of the year is just around the corner. That means it won't be long before we'll be gathering at the Drury Plaza Broadview Hotel in Wichita for the Winter Convention. Mark your calendars and start planning now to attend January 22-25, 2015. Be sure you include the Auxiliary Luncheon and Fun Auction in your plans. Remember, it's a separate item on the registration form. Plan to bring an item to auction at the Fun Auction so you can participate in providing the funds for the scholarships that will be given to some worthy students...

November presidential update

Hello Kansas Auctioneer Friends, Wow, how this year has flown by. It’s hard to believe the holidays are coming and soon I’ll be finishing up my year of presidency. It’s been a great ride and I am so thankful to be having this experience and be working with an incredible Board of Directors. Just last week, we conducted a board meeting and our Annual Livestock Auctioneer Championship. It was a fierce competition. Congratulations to Russele Sleep, our new champion. We had 12 contestants and the contest was conducted at the Emporia Livestock Auction. This committee included Wayne Wischropp, ...

What does the KAA offer me as a member?

What does the KAA offer me as a member? And why should we encourage auctioneer friends who are not members to join our association? Let’s take a look at these questions and make sure we are getting the full value of what we have available as members of the KAA. As a member of the Kansas Auctioneers Association, we have many resources at our fingertips. One very important, and often overlooked, benefit is our ability to request UCC lien searches. We can obtain these for a charge of only $10 for search plus $1 per page should the search find any outstanding liens. This could be the best $10 w...

Message from KAA Auxiliary

HELLO!!!! Is there anyone out there??? Since convention, I haven't heard from anybody!  That just goes to show how full swing we all are into auctions! Doesn't it seem busier to everyone? We hope the economy is turning around! We did run into Bill Eberhardt and his beautiful wife at a real estate auction. I encouraged her to attend next year's convention and get involved. Along with all the rest of you out there that haven't attended for awhile! I know it gets real busy throughout the year, balancing work, whether it’s auction related or another job, real estate sales, family, vacation, los...

2014 BOD retreat

So you are aware, the KAA Board meets each year a month after taking office for a retreat. The purpose of the retreat is to look at the state of the Association, discuss the President’s vision for the year and what needs to be done to move the Association forward in serving members in the best way possible. No matter what they consider, it is always about what is in the best interest of the not only the Association, but the membership. They always evaluate with what is outlined in the Constitution and Policy Manual for guidance on anything that is decided upon. This year it was decided t...

Hello Kansas Auctioneer Friends, Well, 2014 is off and rolling; hopefully all of your auction calendars are filling up for the busy spring and summer seasons. I am excited to be working with such an accomplished and capable group of auctioneers that are constantly working for the betterment of our industry. In March, the National Auctioneers Association conducted the annual State Leadership Conference. S...

October’s letter from President Fullterton

Dear KAA Members, Hello again. Fall is in full swing, and so far, all of the members I have recently visited with are reporting a very full fall auction season; which is always good news to hear when our industry is going strong. For those of you who came to our competition at the State Fair to help out the committee, and to those of you who came to watch and support the event, thank you very much for your assistance and support in making it a great success. The contest was well attended and the Competition Committee deserves a big hand for a job well done. The new contest format worked ...

International Auctioneers Conference and Show in Orlando

As I write this in early February, the “Blizzard of 2011” has recently made its exit from Kansas and headed north and east. I’m sitting in my little house in Lawrence, Kan., looking at snowdrifts that are almost as tall as I am, and I’m dreaming … not of a White Christmas, but of Orlando, Fla., in July! I know that in Orlando I will feel the heat and humidity and perhaps think fondly back to the 2011 blizzard (maybe -- and then again, maybe not!). But what I know for sure is that I won’t have to deal with snow in Orlando. What I will get to do is see many of the friends and colleague...
